How Your Health Influences Your Life Insurance Premiums
When your life insurance policy is created, the amount of the premium that you will pay will be directly affected by your current state of health. When your insurance agent sits down with you to determine what amount of benefit you will receive, and what your premium will be to receive that benefit, they will ask you a large array of health related questions. A typical policy for life insurance Australia offers is obviously intended to provide a benefit in the event of your death. An insurance company needs to determine the likelihood of your death happening before they will issue you a life insurance policy. If you are an elderly person and you are in poor health, the life insurance company will charge you a very high premium for your policy, if they are willing to issue you a policy at all. Conversely, if you are a young person in very good health, then your life insurance agent will be willing to write you a large and generous death benefit for a very small premium. Your health is directly related to the premium you pay for your health insurance.
Your premium is also not affected by your age alone. For example, a young person in bad health might pay just as high of a premium as an older person in excellent health. When your life insurance agent sits down with you to determine your policy, they will also have a nurse come in and draw blood samples. These blood samples will be definitive markers of how healthy you are. Based on these blood test results, your agent will then be able to prescribe the best policy for you, based on your current age and health condition. Once of the nice things about a defined benefit term life insurance policy is that the premium will stay the same over the life of your policy. For example, if you take out an 80 year term policy, you will pay the same amount of money per month for 80 years, and during that time if you should die, then your life insurance death benefit will be paid out to your beneficiary. Your health has a direct effect on this benefit and your agent will be very curious as to what your current health condition is when they write your policy. Your health related conditions before you take out your policy can make it difficult and much more expensive to have a policy taken out on yourself.
